As a tropical island in the Caribbean, Puerto Rico is an inevitable location of various water sports. Fishing is another popular water sport in San Juan. There are a number of marine charters in the city that offer fishing excursions where anglers have a chance to reel in a blue marlin, tuna, and other big game fish. The catch-and-release system is practiced in Puerto Rico though so the best souvenir you can have is a picture taken with your catch.

For those who want to explore the underwater treasures of the Caribbean, scuba diving and snorkeling are the best activities to take on. The visibility is about 60 to 75 feet near the beach and about 100 feet or more farther from the shore while the average ocean temperature is 81 degrees Fahrenheit or about 27 degrees Celsius. The diverse community of wildlife in the Puerto Rican waters is an awesome sight to behold. There are French angels, seahorses, snappers, and other fascinating sea creatures that thrive on the lava reefs. Some hotels offer diving courses and short lessons and outfitters arrange for diving and snorkeling sessions.
